Advances in Digital Biology
A
cool new project has come up on Kickstarter concerning Caenorhabitis elegans,
also known as roundworms or nematodes. The Caenorhabitis elegans consist of 900 cells with a third
of them neurons. The goal is to develop a simulation for the entire elegan
organism down to the cellular level. It is an opensource project meaning that
anyone can get involved and view the code themselves. So far they have raised
$30,000 of their $120,000 goal. Hopefully they will eventually make
it so you can run it on a website without having to download it to your
computer. Probably the hardest part of the project would be to make it so the
program can run smoothly on a computer while performing all of the cellular
processes. So far they have enough to have the worm contract muscles. Still a
long way to go. I’m really looking forward to messing around with this. For

Heartbleed Bug
Although most of us already know heartbleed is old news, but its better late than never to talk about it. For those of us who don't know what heartbleed is, in the simplest terms, its a bug. Not an insect, but a computer bug. The heartbleed bug allows stealing of all the protected information that has been out there from up to two years ago, according to extremetech.com. This information includes communication security and privacy all over the internet such as email, instant messaging, and other internet applications. The heartbleed bug basically lets anyone on the internet read all this information which is stored on the OpenSSL,which is basically a red balloon filled with information. When the heartbleed bug took into effect, the balloon turned from red to clear, allowing everyone to look at everything stored in the balloon. As long as the OpenSSL is still in use, the balloon will remain transparent; however, a fix is being tested and implemented to stop this. to check out more information, check out heartbleed.com.

How to waste all your time on the internet
In my opinion the internet is the best place to waste all of your time because it is more interesting than staring into space while still being able to take up vast amounts of time.
There are gaming websites like: kongregate, addictinggames, miniclip, armorgames
You can challenge your friends with the wiki how challenge where you go on one topic and you see how long it takes to get to another with only using the links on the page. ex. How to Shower to How to Regain Control of a Spooked Camel?

How the Internet Affects Our Busy, Social Lives
I don't play any sports other than the occasional game with my friends or in PE, and I am only a part of one club so I have a lot of extra time and don't always have someone to talk to. To make up for this I spend a lot of time on my computer whether its playing videogames or looking at posts and art on websites like Tumblr, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media. I may not have any friends from sports or clubs, but I sure have a lot of friends that I have met online who live all over the world. These people share common interests as me because that's how I found them. For example, I met a guy who was making music and putting his videos on YouTube. I commented on one of his videos and we started talking and became good friends. I do a lot of things on the computer and it greatly influences my life. A lot of people say I'm much more interesting on the internet which, I'll admit, is true, but i never got into sports, and for some of the ones I'm interested in, it's already too late, such as soccer where if you don't start at seven you aren't gonna get anywhere. Anyways, the internet is awesome as you all know and social media is a huge influence to all sorts of people from all around the world, which in a sense, brings us together.

Next Generation Consoles and PC Gaming
In San Fransisco on March 17, game developers will be meeting at the annual Game Developers Conference. An article i read here, talked about the developers publishing games for the next generation consoles. As a PlayStation fan, i was happy to see that roughly 20 percent of the developers surveyed would be releasing their games on the PlayStation 4. In close second, 17 percent of developers surveyed said they will be releasing their games on the Xbox One. Surprisingly, most of the new games will be coming out on current gen. consoles, meaning the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and so on...
In other news, PC gaming has risen above console gaming in certain countries. Such as in a short article I found here which talks about the rise in PC gaming in New Zealand. Could PC gaming expenses overtake console gaming expenses in the U.S.? If you know anything or can give us some information, please feel free to comment on our blog!

Zombie Apocalypse Guide
First off, I’m
assuming that you haven’t prepared at all in advance, so you don’t have large
quantities of drinkable water, non-perishable food, weapons, or protective
gear, and you don’t live in a fortress. I am also assuming that the zombies
were created by a virus and that zombies would be anywhere that people would
be.
The first
instinct you have might be to get food, but that would be wrong. Everyone else
would also be thinking this and you would likely have to compete with them.
Instead, go to a sporting goods store such as Big 5 where you can get good running
shoes, a backpack, protective gear (good enough to protect from a bite), and a
weapon (gun or medal bat). Now you are ready to go get some food and it will
hopefully be a lot less risky with your gear. Now you hopefully have some food
water and might have found some friends. You’ll need to lay down the rules. The
rules from “Zombieland” are pretty good and go as follows:
1.
Cardio
2.
The Double
Tap
3.
Beware of
Bathrooms
4.
Wear Seat
Belts
5.
No
Attachments
6.
The “Skillet”
7.
Travel Light
8.
Get a Kick
Ass Partner
9.
With your
Bare Hands
10.
Don’t Swing
Low
11.
Use Your Foot
12.
Bounty Paper
Towels
13.
Shake it Off
14.
Always carry
a change of underwear
15.
Bowling Ball
16.
Opportunity
Knocks
17.
Don’t be a
hero (later crossed out to be a hero)
18.
Limber Up
19.
Break it Up
20.
It’s a
marathon, not a sprint, unless it’s a sprint, then sprint
21.
Avoid Strip
Clubs
22.
When in doubt
Know your way out
23.
Ziploc
24.
Use your
thumbs
25.
Shoot First
26.
A little sun
screen never hurt anybody
27.
Incoming!
28.
Double-Knot
your Shoes
29.
The Buddy
System
30.
Pack your
stain stick
31.
Check the
back seat
32.
Enjoy the
little things
33. Swiss army Knife
In addition, you will
need to have an infection policy. In the case of anyone in your party being
bitten they can either: have to commit suicide, be killed, be exiled, or be
caged.
